Pahk the Cah in Hahvud Yahd
It's been several years since we have posted anything to this blog. There were a couple of false starts and we can't guarantee this won't be another one of them. But we can say that Life throws a few curve-balls once in awhile that sometimes has you placing things on a shelf for awhile. Like this blog. We are hopeful we can pull this back down, dust it off, and put a little more out there as time permits.
New England-i-est part |
First thing, we are no longer located in Western NY, but on the North Shore in the Greater Boston Area. An unlikely series of events, involving joining a startup, successful acquisition of said startup a few years later (in startup speak ... the "exit"), serious soul searching about what sort of career one can do after working at a startup, various family things all lining up (nest definitively emptying, loss of one of our mothers), and a very blurry confusing time, now marveling that we now are living in one of the most New Englandy areas of New England, enjoying for what passes for "summer" here. Noting that we're in an area that seems philosophically opposed to air conditioning but could use a little now and again.
In the selling of our old house in Upstate New York, buying a new one in Massachusetts, after renting for about 6 months, and packing up EVERYTHING (including stereo, record collection, etc) in possibly the least cost efficient way imaginable, we learned a lot. Now reeling from moving it, and just starting to unpack and setup the stereo, a little voice told us that we weren't the only ones that faced such a tumult of change. We also made the fiscally reckless decision of upgrading our trusty SOTA Sapphire turntable to Nova plus ... and now are staring at the half dozen boxes it came in wondering what have we done ... and mumbling something about IKEA.
Anyway, without making any promises about the future and the amount of content we can put out as we settle in, we are alive and well, and are at the beginning of a new phase in our lives and adventure. Initially we will be venting about issues like losing your perfectly acoustically tuned house and trying to find something you could work with in an area whose house prices are more than double where you came from. When a Real Estate demands you "stage" your house and you have an imposing stereo system, and the kaleidoscope of craziness playing a figurative game of Towers of Hanoi with all of your things. How picking the right movers can help you a ton. How important music is even in a 6 month lease in an apartment complex, and what works and what doesn't. And how to approach reconstituting your rig, even as you wait for the crowning jewel to arrive. Oh and did we mention we started a new streaming service, Quboz, that we quite like?
Culturally there are a few differences, in our Upstate city, we had no major league sports teams, so had to glom onto Buffalo for many things. Here we are deep in Patriot territory, and ignoring major league sports is not an option....
